AIMPB holds the first meeting of its International Technical Council

The International Association of Professional Bicycle Mechanics (AIMPB) held the first meeting of its International Technical Council, launching a new forum for the direct participation of professional mechanics in the technical development of the Association.

The Technical Council was created with a fundamental purpose: to listen to those who work every day in workshops, technical service operations and different areas of bicycle mechanics, incorporating their experience into the development of AIMPB standards, certification processes, research and projects.

Bringing workshop experience into professional standards

During this first meeting, participants shared different perspectives on the current reality of the profession, the challenges faced by mechanics and workshops, and the need to continue developing technical criteria that respond to the constant evolution of bicycles, components and technologies.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to present AIMPB’s new stage of development and discuss the role of the Technical Council within an organization seeking to consolidate itself as an independent, international and technically focused platform open to professional participation.

The accumulated experience of bicycle mechanics represents an essential source of knowledge. For this reason, AIMPB believes that professional standards should not be developed solely from the perspective of educational institutions, manufacturers or companies, but should also incorporate the real-world experience of those who diagnose, maintain and repair bicycles every day.

An advisory body for an evolving profession

The Technical Council will operate as a permanent forum for consultation and analysis supporting different AIMPB initiatives.

Its areas of participation may include the evolution of AIMPB professional competency standards, the Examination for Competency Certification (ECC), workshop best practices, emerging technologies, continuing education needs and research conducted by the International Observatory of Professional Bicycle Mechanics.

Its role will be to contribute technical knowledge and perspectives from different countries and areas of specialization, helping ensure that the Association’s decisions remain closely connected to professional reality.

An international and collaborative effort

AIMPB intends for the Technical Council to continue growing progressively through the participation of professionals from different countries, backgrounds and technical specialties.

This diversity will help identify differences between markets, share professional experiences, anticipate emerging technical challenges and contribute to the development of professional criteria with international applicability.

The Technical Council complements other AIMPB initiatives, including the International Network of Technical Mentors, the International Observatory of Professional Bicycle Mechanics, Accredited Training Centers, ECC Assessment Centers and the network of AIMPB-certified mechanics.

Mechanics helping shape the future of their profession

With the creation of the Technical Council, AIMPB continues moving toward a model in which professionals are not simply recipients of certifications or standards, but active participants in building and advancing their own profession.
